BARNETBY

Over the years the railway has played an important role in the story of Barnetby (sometimes also known as Barnetby le Wold).

The village today retains close railway links, having its own station and standing on the line which carries almost 25 per cent of Britain's bulk rail freight traffic.

Barnetby, with a population of around 1,500, lies in close proximity to the M180 which gives the village particular appeal to commutersand it is only four miles away from Humberside Airport which offers a growing number of flights to key European destinations.

Although the arrival of the railways helped shape the modern village Barnetby can trace its roots back over 1,000 years, deriving its name from the Scandinavian name "Beornnoth".
Evidence of its long history is reflected in the abandoned church of St Mary which originated in Saxon times.

Barnetby also has a newer church dedicated to St Barnabas and which is about 200 years old.
The village lies on the Viking Way trail which runs way from the River Humber to Oakham, in Rutland.
Barnetby has two village pubs, both with railway connections
