BARROW UPON HUMBER
This pleasant village which is today sought after as a convenient home for commuters from both banks of the Humber has a history going back before the Norman invasion of 1066.

The village was the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery founded by St Chad in the Seventh Century which has been fully excavated. The location is now built over, but is marked by a plaque.
Situated about three miles west of Barton-upon-Humber Barrow is also a small port and at its haven, about 1.5 miles from the village, receives timber ships from Latvia and Estonia.
Barrow was the home of John Harrison, whose chronometer altered for ever the method of marine navigation.
