Brigg Town FC

Formed in 1864, this is the oldest football team in the county and one of the oldest in the world.

Known as the Zebras, they wear black and white as home colours and have in recent years played in the Northern Counties East League but in 2007-08 joined Northern Premier League Division One South.

Northern Counties East League champions in the 2000/2001 season, they were denied promotion to the Unibond Northern Premier League because improvements to their ground were not completed before the deadline. They were runners-up the two following years but only the champions of the NCE League are promoted as a rule. However, after finishing third in the 2003/2004 season they were promoted as a part of the National League System restructuring.

On the national level Brigg Town have won the FA Vase twice, in 1996 and 2003, under long-time manager Ralph Clayton. In the 2001/2002 FA Cup, they defeated eventual Nationwide Conference champions Boston United before being beaten by Tranmere Rovers who ranked five levels above them on the football pyramid.
