Grimsby Town

A League Two side, Grimsby Town has a history which goes back to 1878 when it was formed at a meeting in a pub in the town’s famous Freeman Street.

The club, better known to local fans as known as The Mariners, is based at Blundell Park which is situated in the neighbouring town of Cleethorpes and has been its home since 1899. This will, however change when the club moves into a purpose built stadium at Great Coates to the west of Grimsby.

Recent years have seen a fall in the fortunes of The Mariners, but the club remains the most successful professional football club in Lincolnshire and under manager Alan Buckley hopes are high that the good times may be on the way back.

Buckley has a long and proud record with the club, having managed it three times in the last 20 years
Other notable managers include the late Bill Shankly, who went on to guide Liverpool to great success and Lawrie McMenemy who, after securing promotion to the then third division in 1972, moved to Southampton where he won the FA Cup in 1976.
