Scunthorpe United
The team they call The Iron topped League One in the 2007-7 season to enter the Championship.
Scunthorpe’s home is Glanford Park to which they moved in 1988 when their previous home – the Old Showground – was sold for supermarket re-development. The club was the first in modern times to move to a purpose-built new stadium.
Elected to the Football League in 1950, Scunthorpe gave early opportunities for two players who would later become international stars for Liverpool and England – striker Kevin Keegan and goalkeeper Ray Clemence.
The last three years have seen a run of success for The Iron following hard times which saw them almost slipping out of the Football League.
In 2005 they were promoted as runners-up in League Two and the following season finished 12th in League One.
But real success came in 2006-7 when they were League One champions and returned to back to the second tier of English football for the first time in 47 years.
